I want to travel to the western-most part of Mongolia during 2010 in late August (although could go at the start of June).

From my calculations it is at Latitude 48°52'30.00"N Longitute 87°45'0.00"E. I think that Google is a bit out in this area.

What will the travel conditons be like west of Khurgan Nuur to the western most border? (I note the topic at Trek - Bayan-Olgii - Base camp to Khoton Nuur.)

I definately recommend it - the people are very friendly and surprised to see tourists and you get a much more othentic experience. Also, it isn't difficult to get around as you would think.

There is a bus that leaves UB to Choibalsan. Takes about 12 hours and cost me 27,000 Tugrug. The bus station is a bit tricky to get to but you can ask around ...

After going to the "Black market" (Naaran-tuul zakh) I went to another market which is west of the center and is called Kharkhorin zakh. I liked it much better and didn't have to worry as much about pickpockets.

You can ask around about how to get there. I think buses 4 and 23 get there from the center on Peace road. You get off near the bridge which is crosses over the road (you will pass a big roundabout on the way). You pass the road on the bridge and the market is just there.
